Nunavut

 

NORTHERN YOUTH ABROAD

Northern Youth Abroad seeks to foster leadership, cross-cultural awareness, individual career goals, and global citizenship in the youth of the North. The program promotes success in education by providing life-changing experiences through volunteer work and travel.

 

NUNAVUT SIVUNIKSAVUT

A unique eight-month college program based in Ottawa, Nunavut Sivuniksavut is for Inuit youth who want to prepare for the educational, training and career opportunities that are being created by their land claims and self-government agreements.

 

 

Yukon

 

RUN FOR LIFE INC.

Run for Life Inc. was founded as a Canadian-based non-profit organization in 2002 to bring accessible fitness programs to diverse audiences. For the past decade, a number of Run for Life volunteers have traveled to rural Kenya to support community-based projects.

LITTLE FOOTPRINTS BIG STEPS (LFBS)

Founded by Yukoner Morgan Wienberg and Ontario RN Sarah Wilson in 2011, LFBS is a non-profit organization that works to protect vulnerable children in Haiti. Both Wienberg and Wilson were volunteering in Haiti and saw the need for an organization dedicated to child and family advocacy. Based in Les Cayes, Haiti, LFBS works to reunite families and empower them with resources and opportunities to build a self-sufficient future.


HANDS OF HOPE

Established in 2006 by Yukoners Rosemarie and Liesel Briggs, Hands of Hope assists underprivileged children and adults in India and Nepal to develop independence and self-reliance. Hands of Hope develops libraries, builds classrooms, funds post-secondary education for Nepalese orphans, and sponsors Tibetan refugee families.

PARTNERS IN EDUCATION ETHIOPIA

The mission of Partners in Education Ethiopia (formerly known as the Frances G. Cosco Foundation) is to improve the lives of disadvantaged people through quality education. The organization follows an holistic approach to addressing the multiple barriers children and youth in poor communities face in accessing, and succeeding in, education.

AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL

Established in the early 1980's, members of Amnesty International care deeply about freedom, dignity and basic human rights. Amnesty International often reports on the successful outcomes of the cases members write on.

KESHO TRUST

The Kesho Trust works with communities and conservation agencies to improve relationships between them and find ways to encourage long-term sustainable conservation and community development. Currently the organization is working in eastern Africa and Canada on conservation projects, conservation education, and supporting economic and community development initiatives.

TELIYA INTERNATIONAL

The Teenage Life & Young Adults International Society (TELIYA International) is a registered not-for-profit organization based in the Whitehorse, Yukon. All of TELIYA International’s work is focused on engaging youth and young adults to create a bridge between local and international issues.

WHITEHORSE SOCIAL JUSTICE CLUB

Comprised of students from FH Collins Secondary School and Vanier Catholic Secondary School, the Social Justice Club meets weekly to direct their energy towards making the world a better place. Whether it is in their own backyard or across the globe, the Social Justice Club has a history of empowering students and making a difference.

Alternatives North is a social justice coalition that includes representatives of churches, labour unions, environmental organizations, women and family advocates and anti-poverty groups.
